The long and winding road

Well it's long, but not very winding... Maybe a little hilly. The long and hilly road. Yes it's a long motorway.

We got out of the Eurostar after meeting a lot of nice people who liked our sheep (in particular!) and wanted to give us money! We didn't even ask them for it! But it's an ongoing story that people of all nationalities like our sheep and want to ask questions about a) our sanity, and b) what we're doing. So they hear about the Dumball and hear about the charity, and want their picture taken with a sheep on a car roof, and then give is money. I like those people.

As we set off today we are now split into our squadrons of several cars per group. Except we're not in squadrons this year, we're in 'families'. Each family has a Don as it's leader. We are the Don for our family!
So in our family we have ourselves, Ewe-Turn - Kung Fu Pow!!, a karate kid themed bunch - Wicked!, Marie and Pete the witch and scarecrow and the Ant Hill Mob, who are what it says on the tin.
Only 4 teams there as 2 others dropped out before Dumball. Tomorrow we may merge with another family to get the numbers up and get some good snaking going down the roads!

Travelling in our small convoy we have already cleared most of France and currently roll a few miles out from Strasbourg.
As today was the marathon slog of the trip, a rough 620 miles, we broke up the monotony of the motorway but stopping for an hour or so in a nice little town called Saint Avoul, about halfway between Reims and Strasbourg, where we sat and had some beers in the sun and watched the unhurried life go by, stretched our legs, and ate cake, because nowhere else that sold food was open. Lazy bloody frogs! I was starving! (so had 2 cakes and a chocolate egg).

We have been set some challenges for our trip. Photo evidence is required...
1) Stroke a local's moustache.
2) Leapfrog a local.
3) Get an animal in the car.
4) Pat a local on the head.
5) Get kicked up the arse by a local.

Darren has touched 2 moustaches. One German bloke who fancied our sheep, and a moustachioed statute in St.Avoul !!

Random strangers like our sheep!

We were making such good progress today we had thought about making a clever little detour that would take us through Luxembourg and Germany, and then take us back on route to Zurich. How impressive if we could add another 2 countries to our tally! Only when we all realised that none of us had wound our watches forward an hour did we decide it wasn't such a good idea and we were probably way behind our schedule!

Back on the motorway now we pass Strasbourg then head south to Basel and finally east to Zurich. Where I hope they can be arsed to keep a restaurant open for us!!!!
Also hoping I can find some free WiFi there to upload these blogs!

C'est la vie!
